Friday 27th March 2015

The annual Limavady Sports Council Awards took place on Friday 27th March at the Drummond Hotel in Ballykelly. Each year the Sports Council nominates a host of deserving nominees in a number of categories in order to celebrate the borough’s sporting excellence.

The ‘Big Fight Night’ was voted as the Event of the Year for 2015.

Limavady C&RFC in conjunction with St. Matthew's GAC, Drumsurn hosted the ‘Big Fight Night' at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre on Saturday 7th March. Over 1000 people packed into the Roe Vqlley Leisure Centre to watch players from Limavady C&RFCand St. Matthew’s GAC take each other on in the ring.

There were 10 fights in total including two female fights and an exhibition fight and unfortunately for Limavady the men and women of Drumsurn came out on top. A star studded guest panel of Judges including professional boxers Paul McCloskey and Eamon O'Kane, motor bike legend Michael Dunlop and Ulster Rugby's very own Paddy Jackson and Stuart OIding topped off a great night all round.

This was a hugely successful fundraiser for both clubs and a fantastic night all round. Limavady C&RFC would like to thank all involved for their contribution to making this night a success and especially to Paddy and Stuart for coming along to support the club.

Collecting the award from special guest Nikki Gregg and the deputy mayor of Limavady and president of the sports council Jack Rankin are Neil Moore, Marisa Mullan and Glenn Anderson along with some of the fighters who took part in such a memorable night between Limavady rugby Club and St. Matthew’s GAC Drumsurn.
